I struggled with the new rules of marketing for a very long time. I used social media as a way to advertise my stuff. When I wised up I realized the connection was more important than the sale. Once the relationship was strong the sales would come.

You have to learn how to use the three principles of marketing:

  • Core Values
  • Superpowers
  • Relationships

Your core values should guide every decision you make. Your superpowers are the skills that allow you to help others. When you can help other people succeed they will want you to succeed. When you put all three together you have the recipe for greatness.

Building Great Relationships

People must have a way to get to know you then you can get them to like what you do. Once they start to like you that’s when you earn their trust. Once someone knows, likes, and trusts you the relationship turns into a mutually beneficial partnership.

You have the tools to connect with people in almost every country in the world. It’s a gift that shouldn’t be taken lightly. People are giving you their most valuable asset. Their attention.

No one has to read, watch or listen to your emails, blogs, tweets, or Facebook messages. The ones that choose to give you their attention do so because they expect value back in return. Great companies make a customer feel like they are getting the better end of the bargain. When a customer stops receiving this value they walk away.

It’s your job to keep the connection strong and value at a high level, so when you do create something they are willing to give you their time and money. It’s why you need to infuse value into everything that you do. Even your marketing must be valuable so they want to continue to get messages from you. Making people feel loved is the key to this last part. If they feel like you are working your butt off to make them happy they repay this generosity.

Remember every action you take within your business is a part of your marketing. From the content you create to each conversation you have you are making an impression on people.
